- Know the epidemiology of the most recent outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics
- Know the clinical manifestations of these diseases and when to suspect them when evaluating a patient
- Know how to order the correct tests and treatments when managing a patient with one of these suspected or proven diagnoses.
Infections in the Immunocompromised Patient
Attendees of this presentation should be able to:
- Appraise the immunocompromised patient who is at most risk for serious infections due to diabetes, malignancy, and chemotherapy or medications such as the immunomodulators as per the published EBM/RCT studies in Diabetes Care, Infectious Disease Clinics N.A., Journal of Rheumatology and others.
- Employ standard of appropriate preventative care in various immunocompromised populations seen in primary care.
- Apply an approach to the treatment and follow up of these infections for each type of at risk
- patient
Approach to the Patient with Fever and Rash
Attendees of this presentation should be able to:
- Describe the etiology of commonly seen infectious and non-infectious rashes that are associated with fever.
- Develop a differential diagnosis based upon the type of rash on presentation.
- Recognize the scenarios in which emergent treatment of fever/rash are warranted.
